Whitehouse and DHS Release Draft Cybersecurity Plan

The Obama administration released the draft National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace:  Creatin Options for Enance Online Security and Privacy on Friday afterrnoon after a year in the works.  The report discusses considers privacy protection and voluntary participation as "pillars" in the "Identity Ecosystem," the new buzzword for a system where individuals can verify their digital idetnties.   One of the main focuses of the strategy is to only send as much personal information as necessary for a particular identity authentication.  While the policy has lofty and well thought out goals, the strategy is light on how it can and will be executed and how the strategy will incentivize shareholders accross the system to voluntarily participate in the identity ecosystem.  It is reassuring to see the White House move in the direction of stronger protections for our virtual selves, however it remains unclear exactly how or if this strategy will work.  Public comments to DHS regarding the strategy are due July 19.
